Personal Tax Preparation.
Most of the personal returns we prepare are for clients whose business return we also prepare — so the household and the business get coordinated rather than reconciled at the last minute.
If you are a business owner, an executive with equity compensation, a household with rental real estate, or simply someone whose return outgrew DIY software, we are set up for the complexity.
What goes into a household return at Acuity.
Federal Form 1040 + applicable state returns
Including multi-state filings when a household crosses jurisdictions for work, residence, or property.
Coordination with business returns
K-1s, owner compensation, retained-earnings draws, and self-employment income all reconciled before the personal return is finalized.
Investment, rental, and self-employment income
Schedule B, Schedule D, Schedule E, Schedule C support — including coordination with cost-basis records and depreciation schedules we maintain in the business engagement.
Itemized vs. standard deduction analysis
Including charitable bunching strategies, mortgage-interest considerations, and SALT planning where it applies.
Quarterly estimate calculations
Forward-looking estimates based on the live tax plan, not last year's safe harbor.
Year-end planning conversation
A November or December check-in to lock in moves (Roth conversions, charitable gifts, retirement contributions) while there is still time.
Before you bring us your personal return.
Can I engage Acuity for my personal return only?
Yes. Most of our personal-only clients are W-2 earners with non-trivial complexity (RSUs, ISOs, rental property, multi-state) where DIY software stops being reliable. We are happy to take just the personal return.
What documents will you need?
Once you engage, we send a checklist tailored to your situation. The standard set is W-2s, 1099s, brokerage statements, K-1s, and prior-year returns. We will ask follow-up questions for anything that needs detail.
How is fee structured for personal-only clients?
Personal-only clients are typically billed a flat fee per return, sized to the complexity. We quote the fee after a brief conversation so you know what to expect before any work begins.
